Bio
Rudy Mettia has lived and loved, suffered and embraced a diverse and colorful life. By the grace of God, he was born on American soil to a resilient and determined Italian immigrant mother. Orphaned at the age of nine, Rudy spent his childhood years in countless foster homes as a ward of the state of North Carolina. During this difficult period, he found solace and release in physical activity and trained himself into a splendid athlete. After graduating from high school, Rudy turned down several college athletic scholarships. To honor his mother’s strong feelings of gratitude to her new homeland and his own deep sense of patriotism, he joined the Marines. Fortunately, American remained at peace during Rudy’s tour of duty, and after six years he received an honorable discharge. He spent the next several years on a journey of adventure and creativity, exploring and celebrating life. His unusual ‘careers’ have included policeman, bartender, personal trainer and working actor; once, after sitting elbow to elbow with Sean Connery and discussing his latest project in a make up trailer, Rudy jumped the fence at Sony Pictures to audition for a role in Connery’s film… and won it. (Rudy’s proud of the fact that during his acting career he’s jumped the gates and fences of every major film studio in Los Angeles.) He spent years working as a mean as hell bouncer in Hollywood dive clubs, toting the VIP clip board at exclusive red carpet events, and bodyguarding movie stars to support his own acting career. He’s ridden with hell raising biker clubs and sometimes still does. He’s written poetry. He’s raised dogs and horses. He’s spent summers working from dawn to dusk in 100 degree heat on the tobacco plantations of the deep South. He’s roamed the beaches of South Carolina and Southern California with his golden retriever, relishing the life of a beach bum. Rudy has wandered and experienced, relished and persevered. Over twelve years ago, he walked into Bryan Kest’s Santa Monica Power Yoga studio—and his true passion began. Brian’s influence, much greater in action than in words, has fast-tracked Rudy onto his teaching path—and Rudy has not looked back. Rudy’s steadfast devotion to Bryan and his example has given Rudy a rock solid foundation that affords him the freedom for creativity. Bryan’s non-dogmatic approach to the age-old practice gave Rudy the courage to explore all of yoga’s different schools, and the confidence to take what speaks to him and to leave behind the rest. This freedom and inspiration have directly led Rudy to this moment, and to the creation of Corporalita Yoga. After a twenty-eight year exploration of almost every physical practice imaginable--and after achieving mastery of most—Rudy has come home to yoga. Despite the twists and turns of his journey, Rudy has found contentment fulfillment and peace in this—his true calling.
